Job Title:   Student Housing Specialist Originator
Department: Student Housing Lending
Reports to: Executive Managing Director, Berkeley Point Capital
Location: Throughout the United States


The primary role of the Student Housing Specialist Originator is to develop and manage significant accounts providing clients with exceptional customer relationship management in the identification and effectuation of agency permanent debt executions and other capital solution products.


  • Effectuates permanent debt executions and other capital solutions for student housing transactions utilizing Fannie, Freddie or FHA multi-family housing products and/or other housing finance products as appropriate
  • Evaluates student housing deal profiles, structures and financing solutions; presents solutions to clients and manages solutions through loan closing
  • Manages all aspects of loan origination process, including presentations to senior management, debt structuring, pricing strategy, transaction negotiation and closing
  • Reviews preliminary loan information, determines initial loan sizing, pricing and terms
  • Coordinates as needed with the transaction management team relative to the structure, terms and pricing of each proposed transaction prior to client presentation and throughout the loan execution cycle
  • Promptly address any and all client inquiries or concerns
  • Acts as the client’s central point of contact throughout the loan execution cycle
  • Coordinates processing, underwriting and closing as needed to ensure smooth and timely issuance of loan commitment and closing
  • Solicits new relationships with developers of student housing properties, and manages existing relationships as needed on behalf of the client to enhance transaction volume
  • Participates in regularly scheduled pipeline meetings to discuss specific transactions, business development activities, and promptly resolves any issues identified
  • Participates as needed in various industry functions including business development, marketing and educational events


  • Expert knowledge of and experience originating affordable FHA, Fannie MAH and/or Freddie TAH transactions
  • Highly developed analytical, research and written/oral presentation skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and exercise independent judgment while displaying a high degree of professionalism, initiative, accuracy, and adhering to the highest ethical standards
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service; work independently; organize and prioritize projects; solve complex problems; and complete multiple tasks on schedule
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
  • Proactive team player, able to work effectively under demanding and stressful conditions


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Real Estate, or other related fields; master’s degree preferred
  • 5-10 years student housing finance experience, moderate and substantial rehabilitation of multifamily properties, and/or GSE permanent debt product offerings
  • Able to travel a minimum of 10-20%
